What Does A Video Production Company Do?
Development
Every piece of content starts with an idea. Whether your idea is clear, fuzzy, or non-existent, our creative team will bring it into clarity and develop a strategic concept around it.
1. Media Strategy
It can be difficult piecing together the concept and vision for a video, let alone how it all fits into a campaign. Our team is well-versed in media strategy and will consult with you on how and where to best utilize the work we are creating.
2. Script Writing
We are accustomed to staring at the blank page. If your project requires a script, you can lean on us to put pen to paper and flesh out the story into something real.
3. Storyboard
With a secure understanding of concept & direction, the next crucial step is to create a storyboard. This is the key document we will refer back to throughout the rest of production to ensure we stay on track, always leaving some room for magic on set and in the editing room.
4. Shot List
The shot list is a breakdown of all the shots we want to capture. This list may specify technical aspects like angles, lenses, or framing, all to ensure our production team gets proper coverage of each scene.
5. Treatment
On larger projects that may require funding or buy-in from additional stakeholders, we can develop a treatment to convey the Director’s vision for the project. The treatment is meant to clearly communicate the purpose and value of the project, and generally includes helpful creative references.
Pre-Production
Bringing a concept into reality takes careful planning, logistics, and execution. Our producers manage every detail so you can relax knowing your shoot day will go off without a hitch.
1. Scheduling
Depending on how complex the vision is, there can be a lot of moving pieces to wrangle together. Our team handles all scheduling so you can remain stress free, making sure everyone is in the right place at the right time when it counts.
2. Casting
Our team handles casting talent when required. Whether it is basic lifestyle stand-ins or full-blown actors, we’ll find the right person for each role required.
3. Voiceover Recording
For projects that require a narrator or voiceover, we will source VO artist options for you to review. Once approved, we manage the recording in-studio to ensure tonal delivery is on point with our script.
4. Locations
Locations are a huge part of production as they dictate what’s possible in the scenes. Outdoor or indoor, we take the time to choose, book, and scout each location in advance so we know exactly what to expect when it comes time to film.
5. Permitting
Some locations require permits to film. We will pull all the required permits in advance for you, or notify you of legal limitations if any.
6. Licensing
Music or sourced footage may require a license to use in your video. We take care of this red tape up front so you won’t run into any copyright issues down the road.
Production
Lights, camera, action. Production day is where all our preparation comes to a head and we capture everything needed to bring your vision to life.
1. Cinematography
Whether it is a single videographer or an entire camera department, we come prepared with the personnel and equipment to capture high quality footage to meet the needs of your project.
2. Drone
We have drones and we love to incorporate them on the right project. Our drone team is fully insured and carries the proper FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certifications.
3. Lighting
G&E (Grip and Electric) is the crew responsible for shaping light in each scene by placing lights, cloths, and other fixtures around the space to create the proper feel.
4. Audio
Audio recording is crucial in any project. Whether we are recording interviews or capturing ambient audio of the location, we use professional recording tools to capture clear sound.
5. Art Direction
All of our productions include art direction. This is our responsibility to pay attention to detail in every frame by utilizing props and practical objects so each scene feels intentional and beautiful.
6. Photography
We have the capabilities to shoot photography as well as video. In cases where photography is an additional deliverable, we will bring a dedicated photographer on set to capture beautiful imagery according to your requirements.
7. Hair & Makeup
Hair & makeup is not required but sometimes requested for more high profile talent and interview subjects. We have a roster of highly talented makeup artists across the country to keep our talent looking camera-ready.
8. Interviews
Interviews are the gold standard filming setup for any video. Our crew is well-versed in properly lighting, filming, and directing subjects to feel comfortable on camera and deliver the sound bites we need to communicate your message.
Post
Our team of in-house editors and animators work their magic with the footage captured during production, delivering you a final product ready to publish.
1. Ingest & Media Management
The first step of the editing process is ingesting all the footage that was shot during production and preparing it to be edited. During this part of the process, footage is duplicated and securely backed up.
2. Editing & Assembly
Our in-house editing team culls through every frame of footage that was captured during production, cutting out any irrelevant shots and assembling clips according to the storyboard.
3. Graphics & VFX
Our in-house team handles most basic graphics like lower thirds, logo animations, and title cards. For more complex custom animations, we collaborate with our network of independent illustrators and animators based on style and scope, giving us the ability to create a wide range of visual effects.
4. Sound Design
Meticulous sound design is one of the most crucial parts of an edit. Footage falls flat when you don’t hear what you are seeing. When we don’t capture audio in-camera, our post team brings coherence to the edit with sound design.
5. Color Grading
Most projects are shot in LOG, meaning the color of the RAW footage appears very flat. This allows our team to color grade the project with maximum flexibility, adding a dimension of tone or emotion to the video based on how it is graded.
6. Sound Mix & Master
Before shipping a project, we complete a full audio mix & master based on the usage of the video, ensuring it will sound clear, balanced, and pleasing in its final form.
7. Revisions
We want the first version you see to be as close to final as possible, but we typically offer 3 rounds of revisions during the editing process. This allows clients to share input back and forth before finalizing the edit.
8. Delivery
We can deliver your assets according to any specs required for your usage. Final work is commonly delivered in 4K and in various aspect ratios (horizontal, square, vertical) to allow usage across different platforms and channels.
